We help engineering students develop critical thinking skills
Consult and practice with EngE-AI. See how you can improve.
Built for how engineers learn
-
Scenario generation
EngE-AI helps instructors create multi-part scenario-based, exam-like questions for students to work through. Students get instant feedback on their answers.
-
Writing feedback for instructors
Instructors use AI to help review and give feedback on student essays and written work.
-
Guided pathway
Every message is screened. If a conversation veers towards crisis, harm, or something outside the course, EngE-AI pauses the lesson and responds with real UBC support resources.
More that helps you practice
-
Auto-adjusting tone
EngE-AI's memory agent tracks the topics you're struggling with across a conversation and adjusts its tone in response.
-
Diagram creation
Ask about a process or system and EngE-AI sketches it as a flowchart.
-
Multiple modes
Manually adjusts the tutor's tone based on students' understanding.
Hosted on UBC's own infrastructure
Course material, chat history, and student data live in instances that UBC runs and controls. EngE-AI was built to keep UBC community data inside the university's own walls.
From the investigators
Reimagining AI for Higher Education.
EngE-AI is a pedagogically grounded, course-customizable Socratic AI platform that transforms generative AI from an answer machine into a catalyst for critical thinking, deeper learning, and authentic problem solving; tailored to the unique learning outcomes of every discipline.
As generative AI becomes more widely utilized in education, educators have an unique opportunity to design learning experiences that use it purposefully while strengthening essential skills such as critical thinking. EngE‑AI brings these goals together through a course-grounded RAG system that engages engineering students in guided, discipline-specific learning. EngE AI offers a more intentional educational experience than general-purpose GenAI platforms.
